Sometimes it pays to walk the extra mile at Toys R Us to see what else is cooking. I've had my eyes on these DC Super Friends for awhile, and with some B-Day money burning I picked up Batman and the Joker. After buying such nice but "Dainty" Batman figures, I needed some toys ready for more rough and tough action.
Batman is solid, full of padding and big boots. He has a Bat-a-rang of course, which he throws pretty well by a dial on his back. He also comes with a Jet-Bat-Pack, that is meh-okay. The wings pop up for flight action.
The Joker is silly as usual. He comes with a Pie thrower, which is a funny idea.
The Joker's better feature is his flip up tie gun, by dial on his back. It works really well, and is pretty unique change of weapon. Yes, it does leave a gapping hole in his chest, but its a flip up tie gun!
Batman, Look out!
I must not of got the Pie Defense Batman.

Batman Through the Ages, an Action Figure Gift Set; Classic Batman AKA: Old Man Batman
You would think a Batman through the ages set, would have a modern Batman. Instead you get a Batman that has lived through the ages. This guy is ripe with over his prime years, and reeks of knee blowing out after rooftop landing.
A hell of a figure, very John Wayne -esque. He takes no sh!#, and even has the time to kick Super Friend Batman's ass.
I'm not saying I hate him, in fact he's totally bad for the collection. He will make sure every figure is up to code, and justice served. I just hope he doesn't blow a hip bone with those over extended muscles.
He's the tallest of the group, but agile? He might need to work behind a desk, or pull a neck muscle lifting that cape.
Don't even think of doing the reverse shoulder joke tap on this guy, he will break your finger off.

Batman Through the Ages, an Action Figure Gift Set; Super Friends Batman
Super Friends Batman is exactly that, a super friend version of Batman. This is the guy you want cooking at your summer Bar-b-Q. This is the guy to get your cat out of a tall tree. This is the guy to talk to you about using too many prescription drugs.
I have never seen a more friendlier Batman, with such soft and comforting features. He would probably befriend any villain into a nice guy.
Strange that they gave the figure fists vs. a nice open hand for handshakes. I just want to give him a big hug and say thanks Batman for placing those safety signs all over the park.
Job well done Batman! Next up, Classic "Old Man" Batman...

Batman Through the Ages, an Action Figure Gift Set; Golden Age Batman
Golden Age Batman is not gold, but he is blue and gray. Out of the four, he's kind of the weakest, but nothing to throw out. He sports the black and blue two color mask with eyebrows well. His Head is probably the best thing about him, as the stumpy cape takes away from the rest of the figure. I would imagine the Brave and the Bold Batman is borrowing from this age.
A Bat-a-rang would really help and improve this figure. He has one closed fist, and one open hand, so he could hold something. This second Batman has jointed ankles which help him fall over more easily than First Appearance Batman. His Bat symbol looks better though, really classic.
An interesting paint feature are his blue hip squiggles. Are these weapons? Did he rip his underwear? Are they a design feature to resemble print action? Whatever they are, it is an interesting highlight.
I hope you don't get the wrong impression, I still like this one. He would make a good doorman if he was six feet taller.
Again with the short cape, it just don't look right.

Batman Through the Ages, an Action Figure Gift Set; First Appearance Batman
One of my gifts to myself for this years B-Day, was the Batman Through the Ages Set from DC Direct. I totally stumbled on it on Ebay, for an insane price of $20 bucks (including shipping!). I almost want to say I saw it once at our local Hastings store for about $50 a few years back. The box was a little dinged, but that made it all the easier to open. What I like best about this set, is that I really needed some unique Batman pillars to fill out the collection, as most of my Bats are more mainstream.
The Set comes with First Appearance Batman, Golden Age Batman, Super Friends Batman, and Classic Batman (btw, where is the Modern Batman, if this is a Batman through the ages set???). What really sells the box is First Appearance Batman. I am still kicking myself from missing First appearance Batman vs. recent appearance Batman I saw on the shelves a few months back. And you will be kicking me too, as I almost bought the pack for a contest prize for my five year blog anniversary (good thing I bought lame capsule toys that I never used instead, right?)
Overall the figures are really nice. They have enough joints to do a few good positions, without falling over. There is a little paint/plastic melt in spots, maybe from a long life in package, but I'll let that slide. I really dig when Batman wore his ears on the side of the head. They should use that in the next Batman reboot. The Blue gloves are a little bit flashy, but help remind us that hey this is first appearance Batman, okay! I also like how Batman demonstrates the old century ways of hiking ones pants up really high. With outer underwear like that, there has to be a wedgie under that cape.
The set comes with matching display stands that are really superb artistically. The down side, is the little pegs that you fit into the figure's foot, and then into the stand. They are a bit short, and can fit too far into either the foot or the stand. But that is just a small problem, and First Appearance Batman will fit well in the collection.
