Why did Lando take Han's clothes?

I always thought it was strange that at the end of The Empire Strikes Back, Lando changes into what looks like Captain Solo's clothes. Why is this? There could be so many reasons. The first possible reason was that these were Lando's clothes to begin with. When Lando lost the Falcon to Han in a bet gone bad, the clothes came with the ship, so Han took over possession of both the ship and clothes. That seems strange though, but could lead to the second possibility; the clothes are an actual uniform for the Millenium Falcon. That would beg the question, why did Chewbacca not wear the official uniform of the ship? Perhaps being a harry Wookie would answer not wearing the pants or shirt, but at least the vest? Or, just the captain of the ship wears the uniform? More questions are raised when you look at this package...

'Lando Calrissian in Smuggler Outfit!' This means that the uniform is a smuggling outfit! Which is very strange, because one would think this profession to be very secretive. I would hate to be caught smuggling spice at Walmart just because I was wearing the flagged smuggler's outfit.

Oh well, I'm afraid I still can't answer this most strange situation. Can you?

Huh. I'd never thought about that before. I think this is a very good question.

You're looking at it backwards. Lando was the first owner of the Falcon - so why was HAN wearing Lando's clothes.

Now, losers like myself who read the books know that after Han took over the Falcon he was hard up on his luck. I'm thinking after a gun battle in which he shot first, he needed a change of clothes. And Landos fit fine....not so much for his 8 foot,600 year old Wookie friend.

That's easy. Lando and Han both have similar outfits as they both spent time as smugglers. Lando spent a great deal of time on Corellia and so did Solo spend time on Socorro. Which both share similar vehicles, cultures, food, and clothing to some extent. Those weren't Han's clothes...they were Lando's version of a similar fashion.

It's so simply you guys are looking right past it. Lando was not prepared for a long trip when they speedily escaped in the Falcon. Therefore, he only had the clothes he was wearing, and probably no credits to buy new ones. Seeing as it's Han's ship, I'm sure he had some extra clothes on board, so Lando probably found an extra vest and wore that.

I've hated Lando since ever precisely for this, he never has had an own personality, and always is trying to looks like another personages.

i agree with joe oberstar if they were landos cloths you would have seen him wearing them in more scenes soit most likely that he borrowed them fromhan but then saying that han was an empire official the outfit could be an outdated imperial uniform and they scrapped the uniform just as he desertedand being a hard up smuggler just kept it

I personally like to think that it's the kind of stylish outfit that pilots, especially Corellian pilots like Han Solo, might like to wear from time to time, and that Lando was following in their example....It doesnt make sense but i think it was because they wanted to show that Lando was going to take Hans place for a little
