Watch Collection; Episode 23: Transformers Optimus Prime

Thanks to eating a series of foods that shouldn't be eaten in that order, I can treat to an early morning review on the Transformers Optimus Prime watch. Uh-oh... excuse me for one moment.

Okay, I start Saturday off with a new pledge to eat better; less soda more whole grains, maybe even an apple a day kind of thing. I started well with Frosted Mini Wheats, and later a DIET Pepsi. Things going good so far, right? Then a surprise barbeque invite, and things go downhill from there. Ate some really good, but over plentiful chips with dip, then a large tasty hamburger, and then some, yes, healthy corn on the cob. Now the fall to the dark side, a few drinks of questionable content (shot of Chocolate cake anyone?). Then some cookies made from possible old cookie dough, and then some more drinks of questionable content. Now it feels as if my esophagus is full right to the top. I took 2 Peptos, but they aren't working too well yet. I can't lay down, or everything will spill out my mouth. So the best thing to do, is sit upright, and wait for everything to settle down.

ANyhow, here is the new Optimus Prime watch that was sitting next to Storm Shadow in the kids watch area. I was really excited for this one as well, as Transformer watches usually mean high status in popularity.


For some reason, the watch face form of Prime looks like a face. There is a BumbleBee watch as well, and he looks almost like a cat face. The good news is that they modeled Prime after generation one style, but he is kind of flimsy.


I forgot to pull his hands out for this picture. I actually almost broke one hand off, thinking that they pull then rotate out. Overall the plastic is very cheap, and not to impressive transformation compared to older watches. Really Hasbro? I think by know science could create a better transforming watch. I have plenty of watches of small vehicles that stick way off the wrist, why couldn't Prime be like those small Transfomers toys, just detachable to the band? I suppose this was just a quick throw-out for the kids watch section.

And yes, what's with the questionable nipple watch format buttons?

Watch Collection; Episode 22: Storm Shadow Screwed Me

I was flabbergasted to find a repainted Inspector Gadget watch with Storm Shadow markings! It seemed weird that they just used the same model, but I was happy with the features, so why not?


It is strange that Storm Shadow's watch is in black and not white. But I guess its not HIS personal watch so it doesn't matter. Snake Eyes has a watch as well, but it has a side laser that will for sure get broken off as you take a corner short.


This is where Storm Shadow screwed me. NO WORKING SIREN ALARM! They left the light and the button, but it is glued down to not function. I doubt the electronics are even inside to do that trick. I was so bummed. I really liked that feature of walking behind someone blaring an annoying siren. What a disappointment Storm Shadow. Next time I play with toys, both Snake Eyes and Spirit will tag team against you and kick your sorry ass!

I do like the pretty star designs between the band and the watch face. Very Comfortable fit as well.

Watch Collection; Episode 21: Go-Go Gadget Watch!

There goes the GI Joe post marathon. This post is partly a warm up for the next post which is GI Joe related though. So here is the overly worn Inspector Gadget watch. I love this watch, as you can see, I wore it all the time. It has a front end LED 'laser,' and a switch that sets off a blinking siren alarm. SO cool when you want to do a citizens arrest. Its also pretty comfortable for a watch that is made for an eight year old.


The watch survived many years when I was a grocery cashier. It certainly took a pounding.

Watch Collection; Episode 20: Road Runner

With 4th of July around the corner or at the end of this week, the broken Road Runner dynamite watch is worthy to show off.


Like the science teacher on LOST will tell you, be very careful with dynamite. I wasn't careful, and when the watch blew, the bottom chunk went with it. Or it was a plastic defect.


So after working perfectly a hidden blasted Cyote is seen inside.

Watch Collection; Episode 19: Autobot Watch

I am really surprised Transformer watches have not made the come back yet. Back in the day, if you were wearing one of these things, you were royalty.


I bet wearing Scorpia, a fake gold plated Transformer watch, would gain you emperor status!

I hate taking photos of toys that are shinny, my flash tears right through them and back at me.


I have heard in some circles that this is his 'spaceship' mode, but I'm not seeing it. Looks like he fell over.

The Fantastic Watch Collection; Episode 18: Mighty Max Gator Head

A backup to episode 2, the Mighty Max Gator Head is good for sneaking up to people in a lake.

the Fantastic Watch Collection; Episode 17: Fred Flintstone Watch

Its a watch that feels like you are actually wearing a rock on the side of your wrist. It is the most heavy and bulky watch out of the collection. Its also over ten years old, and the sound effect "Yabba-Dabba-Doo!" still works fine. To be authentic, I think the time piece should be a sun dial.

The Fantastic Watch Collection; Episode 16: Monster Truck Watch

I got this watch out of an AVON catalogue of all places. I guess women need monster truck watches to go along with make-up, perfume, and fine jewelry. The truck drives off the band for off-roading through the flower beds. Its over ten years old now, and the digital readout is long dead. The sound effect however still tries to function. With a press of the hood it pathetically tries to roar to life, and then roars for about five minutes as it desperately tries to finish the audio file or whatever is in that things memory.

The Fantastic Watch Collection; Episode 15: Batman Forever

Back when I was Batman's sidekick he had me wear an official Bat watch. When I needed the time, I would press on Batman's head and his cape would flip open. Sometimes the cape would flip on its own and get caught on doors and fences and such, and would be annoying.

The Fantastic Watch Collection; Episode 14: The Space Shuttle

The Space Shuttle watch is perfect to wear while its currently orbiting the planet. That way, you can always say its Space Shuttle time! It functions closely like the Stealth watch, its time piece flips out of the nose, and it has spacey take-off sound effects that annoys cats.


I drove myself crazy trying to take a shot of the flickering engine lights. As the Shuttle speeds up the lights flicker even more. After some failed 20 tries, I gave up. I can't believe the odds that not one time did the camera take at the same time the lights were on. Next camera I buy will have one of those multi-shoot options.

For LEon's request, here is where the digital time piece is located. Inside the nose cone area. The two back buttons on the shuttle bay doors activate the sounds, and flip open the time piece. The front looking hatch thing on the bay doors is the battery compartment.



I skipped 13 on the watch list, becasue there is no way I'm posting the number 13 with NASA related material.

A double take is often needed when looking at this watch. A normal first response would be what is that ship on your arm!!? But once the horror has passed an intriguing time piece is discovered. Marketed for the Disney movie Dinosaur this watch is an eye of a Dinosaur with the digital time hidden behind a blinking eyelid, and hologram of a dinosaur eye.


The batteries are dead now so all you can see is XX:XX ( Just kidding, stupid joke). But really when it does function, it is hard to make out the time, and its also tricky to fully flip up eye lid.


And surprisingly its not very comfortable on the arm, its bulky and looks like something died on your wrist.

Here's a good watch to literally pass the time. Try and get Taz to juggle the three tiny ball bearings. Easy off the wrist, but trickier on.

The Fantastic Watch Collection; Episode 9: Thomas the Tank Engine

You get lots of respect walking into 1st grade wearing this watch! The Thomas the Tank Engine watch is fairly basic when it comes to bells and whistles, but it does have one unique feature, it plays happy birthday on your birthday. Just set the magic date, and wait, and wait, and wait, and on your birthday it plays for you.

On an unrelated topic, years after I left this watch in a shoe box on a shelf in my closet, I awoke to strange terrifying music. I lay in bed terrified of why some strange and haunting music was playing from somewhere in my room. I yelled out "WHHHHHYYYY MEEEEEE!" and "OOOOH GOOOOD! SAVE ME FROM THE WHE MUSIC!" Then after the music stopped and my sheets soaked from what I hope was sweat, I came to my senses and remembered that years earlier I bought a watch that played music on my birthday.

The only thing this watch does is 'Get Dangerous!'

A simple yet striking design and ingenious use of cape. When I wear my cape around town, I wear this watch with it.

The Fantastic Watch Collection; Episode 6-7: TMNTs

I am an honorary Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle. When I go to fight crime I wear a Donatello on my right and a Leonardo on my left. I wonder why I never upgraded to four watches with Raphael and Michelangelo. I could have worn those on my ankles and kicked total butt!


You can tell I attack more with my Leonardo Left because his paint is a little chipped.


One for New York time and one for Boise time.


They also detach from their wristbands for much needed play time.

The Fantastic Watch Collection; Episode 5: Stealth Fighter

Being part of a Stealth Fighter Pilot team is pretty tricky. You have to hide a lot. This watch helps with that ability.


One of my favorite watches back in the day of service. It has realistic lights and sounds of take-off and weapon firing. It also has sharp tail fin corners to slit the throats of your most hated enemy when you crash behind enemy lines.


And of course the 'ejectable' time piece will always wow the crowd.

sad that the watch has took so much wear and tear over years, I think the band has that darn plastic melting syndrome. But It will fly again!

The Fantastic Watch Collection; Episode 4: Kermit the Frog

When your called to entertain as much as I am in front of the back yard squirrels, I find the Kermit the Frog watch the perfect distraction.


Not too gimmicky, the watch is basically a plastic Kermit on a flip top that tells the time under it. But he has lots of personallity that the squirrels enjoy and with the right frog voice you can pull it off.



Hit his feet just right on the table and you can make him dance!

So when I am on the road with a client who asks; "Can you make me a bus graphic that says 'Dinosaurs are real' and have it in a 3d style with lots of volcanoes erupting in the background using Gill Sans, Futura, and Arial Bold, and five paragraphs of text stating the history of the T-rex." I can say; "Sure," Etching out a quick thumbnail, and present this...
