Icer Masters of the Universe Classics

Apparently I was really cold last spring, so that and I got conned into purchasing the Matty Collector Filmation Subscription series, all because I wanted an Icer figure so badly.  It was also one of those "fate" things, where I was watching old Masters episodes on Netflix, and happened to see the Icer episode (somewhere in season 2 I believe).  I had completely forgot about this obscure character and really wanted a piece of the cold. Turns out he was a very rare figure, so that was a no go. Then, like 2 days later, Matty had Icer on their to do list. So I bought into the whole subscription thing (of course now I am getting five more really obscure figures!).

In retrospect, I should have just bought a Captain Cold figure and removed his clothing.

If the bio didn't remind you of the episode, it also involves a bratty English speaking boy (which is weird that the accent is on Eternia), who gets transfered to the weather station after some dim witted high-jinks.

Icer however, was really hot and fits perfectly into Skeletor's minion pyramid schemes. As a figure, He turned out pretty well. He has some nice white airbrushing all over his naked body, a nice snowy blue. He is provided with two accessories; an icicle and a golden staff.

I am glad I got a chance at getting him, I am just not sure why I did the whole sub thing, when I probably could go the Ebay route. Whatever I did, I have bungled my way through this whole Matty campaign of Masters figures, getting the weirdest assortment that even the neighbor kid is left scratching his head.

Just Plain Old Ordinary Classics Skeletor

To complement Plain Old Ordinary Classics He-Man, is Plain Old Ordinary Classics Skeletor. Skeletor is plain fantastic in my book. I think he slightly edges out He-Man as the better of the two figures.

And yes, that is two Skeletors now.  At least with these two, there are a few more differences.

Skull Face is painted differently. Battle Armor Skeletor has socks. Normal Skeletor has his trademark loin cloth fancy belt skirt. Normal Skeletor gets his wizard staff and purple power sword.

Now with each figure (He-Man), comes half of the Power Sword like the good old days. Fit them together, and depending on your mythos, something will happen (Grayskull opens, King Grayskull appears, Happy Hour at Pub Eternia extended indefinitely).

I think they fit together worse than the originals. Oh well, no biggie, its more of a silly gimmick.

So now I can finally rest that Plain Old Ordinary Classics Skeletor is on the shelf.

Just Plain Old Ordinary Classics He-Man

It was either committing to a very expensive Castle Grayskull late last year, or watching a lot of Filmation He-Man reruns lately, that I made the decision to get just a normal plain of the run He-Man figure from the evil forces of Matty Collector. I always wanted this version from the start, but was denied by the first few waves of scalpers who got there first. I kind of gave up, not wanting to support such lameness, but lately my heart softened and I gave in.

Of course now I have two He-Men. I did get the Battle Armor version earlier, which was neat, as that was my very first original He-Man toy. But the Armor is not cartoon accurate, which has bugged me all sorts of ways for many years. I try not to think of the lame extra expenses paid for different torso armor, as these figures are pretty much identical.

Maybe what sold the deal was getting the Power Sword and Shield with the normal He-Man. Kind of silly not to have the Power Sword for the Armor version. I will also get many miles out of normal He-Man, as he is so iconic to the toy collection.

Of course I also used the opportunity to get a Plain Old Ordinary Classics Skeletor, but maybe tomorrow on that one.

Castle Grayskullman - Masters of the Universe Classics

Castle Grayskullman just might be one for the books. Its about time the spirit  of Castle Grayskull got up and done something. This guy is so heavy, He-Man himself couldn't lift him... for very long.

I had to acquire mine through Ebay, as I was too late on opening day. We all have our Matty Collector horror stories; five minutes into sale, I got him into the shopping cart, went to pay, it sold out! I'm just glad they let some other dude out there buy ten of them so that they could hike the price up on me.

Still the Ebay prices were not too crazy yet, I have seen worse, but SOO worth it. I can already think of a half dozen antics I could put this guy through.

Some highlights are his Hulk Hogan styled hair.

And his Stonewall Skinned Boots are classic! Which sold me on the concept.

I totally recommend this guy if your are looking for the fixtures of all the 80's brands.

Clawful! Masters of the Universe Classics

Any character with the name Clawful wins in my Museum. He is a vibrant red lobster man, who I hope we never get to taste. I did not get to Clawful in the 200x Masters line, as he was a solid statue, so it is nice to have a articulated figure. He was a bigger dude in the last show, so maybe he can function with that line.

I just saw an original Clawful episode on our Retro TV station a couple weeks ago. Its funny, as his head is more dinosaur like than crustacean. He also got owned by He-Man, tossed out a cave ceiling, flew for miles, back to Skeletor on Snake Mountain.

Its a good thing to know that the Karikoni crustacean warriors also wore fur loin cloths with solid belts.

Clawful's claw has a little spring in it for grabbing stuff, like his green staff.

To be or not to be!

And thats another Masters figure.

Webstor! Masters of the Universe Classics

I would have gladly paid full price for a Webstor on his first go around, had I remembered to mark my calendar. He is one of the best for Skeletor's henchman and independent antics.

I am not sure why they made him armor-less in the package, maybe to make it look like he comes with more stuff? Good thing they left his under-fur on!

My first Webstor still lives, although extremely sticky now. I should really pack him in something else, besides a plastic tub. You can see here how dedicated these classics are to the originals.

The story I would tell about the original was his complicated grapple/rigging backpack. Either I was too rough with it as a kid, or it was poorly made, my Dad had to re-string it several times. It eventually broke for good, and I just tore it off his back. The new Classics Webstor also has a grapple with rope, but it is not as complicated. His added backpack legs can help hold rope too.

I just can't stop looking at this spider dude. What a terrific figure!

Snout Spout! Masters of the Universe Classics

Once I found out that the Classics Castle Greyskull that I pre-ordered was a go, I sort of freaked out that I didn't have much of the Classics figures to go with it. I have avoided the line for many reasons; cost, difficulty, and preferred 200x lines. However, there are several figures of late that were never made for 200x, and would make for some great fun.

Then Matty Collector had that insane Black Friday/ Cyber Monday sale, that had me hoarding up many, many figures, for a great deal. Heck even shipping was reduced. I think its safe to say I have enough figures for He-Man to fight off now. Snout Spout was a character from years ago, that I almost forgot about. He was not apart of the He-man cartoon, as it was finished by his time. I guess he made it to the She-Ra cartoon, and I am pretty sure I have seen them all, but just can't recall it yet.

Where ever he is from, he is total Masters of the Universe material, with his standard funky color body, blue underpants, and elephant head gimmick. I guess he is the resident firefighter; stores water in backpack, and has some life saving weapons.

He is really a fantastic Classics figure. Very vibrant in an elephanty goof ball way. His trunk looks to be made of a softer plastic that can be moved slightly for some good shots. The trunk does show some wrinkles when bent too much. It will be interesting to see the long term effects of that plastic.

If I had any thing to say bad, it would be how his backpack fits to the body harness. No main peg that fits directly into back (which makes for a nice clean back), but four spots of attachment. If you don't fit it in right, it can fall of easily, but this is really nit-picky.

I am so glad to get this guy, as he is so weird. I hope to show some more of the assortment I ordered on video, as there are many stories to tell.

Castle Greyskull still a Go!

Oh dear lord, now I really have to fork out $250.00 plus?!!  I did not see this coming. Ha-ha good times! So yes, it looks like the pre-orders of Castle Greyskull is good, and now more pre-ordering is commencing. So if you want to be like me (now waking up to the cold fact that I have to pay for this thing), go order one too. Evil Mattycollector strikes again! funny thing too, I only have Battle Armor He-Man and Skeletor. I probably should get a few more figures too. Oh this is going to cost big time.

Castle Greyskull Classics

I forgot to mention last week, I committed a pre-order for Castle Greyskull. Yes, at $250.00 plus shipping its a little steep (ok, CRAZY STEEP).  I think it would make a great trophy piece, if not, have it stair at me as I sleep. When you compare it to other insane toys purchases like those specialty Light Sabers, Big Millennium Falcon, or combined purchase of every Lego Minifigures, its not so high. I'm sure in its limited supply, it will have at least a break even resell value, if I decided I was indeed insane.

SO, pre-orders end today, at like midnight or something, so if you want one, and want to also deliver the stress of me getting one too, go here, Castle Greyskull. If not, they won't make it, and I am saved forking out $250.00 plus.

Zodak this 200x Roboto Teela!

For the last couple of weeks I have been an Ebay-ing mooch, picking up 200x Masters of the Universe figures all over. I really want that whole core collection! I am down to hunting for the more rare figures, and they can get a little spendy, so I focused on the loose. Hopefully nothing was in the bathtub. Zodak has been on my list for a long time and so was Roboto. I got really lucky as a seller had both to offer.
Roboto is a good homage to the classic, but with some fancy skewing. He's like looking into a crazy circus mirror. He continues the working inside gears, and moving jaw action feature, which is fantastic! He now also features an added chest plate for battle. He almost seems a little small though, as he was massive on the show. Also, thanks to the uncertain world of Ebay auctions, I paid more for a loose Roboto, then a packaged one I bid on the next day! Now I have two.
Old School Zodak was such a "Nice-Guy", then he was re-imagined to be more of a "Bad-Ass-Nice-Guy". Zodak is now black and has tatoos of "Z" on him. He is more of a martial arts dude in 200x, vs guy in recliner of the classics (He still has the recliner in the update, but its not as loungy). His helmet is removable, and tilts down slightly, which is kind of sad. While he looks amazing, I am a tad let down, as I guess he doesn't really do anything Masters like. No periscoping neck, springing legs, or green sport coat. He will look good behind other main figures though. Also, I like how he has the two finger point attack stance. I think he actually did that maybe "once" on the show.
While I lucked out with pretty darn good condition Zodak and Roboto, (they need minor dust washing, and open air refreshing), Teela will need some more decontamination...
She is in great shape, with all weapons and solid joints, but she smells a little funny. Its hard to say, maybe smokey, maybe onions, or maybe sweaty. She probably spent a great deal of time in storage. I have her in a plastic baggie with some of my wife's Victoria Secret "PINK" sprayed inside. She'll be okay in a few days. Now I am just down to finding a Evil Lynn and my all time favorite Fist-o.

Masters of the Universe 200X Whiplash

The year was 2003, I was at Target on Eagle, I see a Whiplash, I no get, I don't see again until today. I originally passed, thinking I would see again really soon. Bad idea. The line fell apart quickly after that, and I was crushed to this day. My favorite Masters of the Universe line is the early 2000 stuff. Its unique and more "playable" than the vintage stuff, or the new "fancy" Matty Collector stuff.

In moving my Toy Museum from one room to another, I started opening lots of toys in storage boxes, like Buzz-Off and Merman from a couple weeks ago. I didn't have a Whiplash stored, so I had to go to Ebay. I got a crazy, crazy, insane, major, rocking deal on him, almost less than I would have paid for him in 2003. Most of that line Are Ebay-able from ten to twenty, but a few of the rare ones go way higher.

After immediately opening him I will say without doubt, he is top five out of something. He is a total large, solid, thick, fantastically playable action figure. He comes with a strange alien sword like weapon, and holds it well. His strong fists and his flashy skirt are also noteworthy.

Whiplash's pinkies give Megan Fox's stumpy thumbs a run for her money.

Whiplash's action feature is a strong 180 degree tail whip...

Whiplash!

He-Man is going to have to work extra hard now that this guy is on the shelf with him.
